Menopause, Acne and Hypothyroid

Menopause hormone fluctuations and hypothyroid symptoms often occur together.

Hypothyroid (low thyroid function) can be accompanied by acne, psoriasis, eczema, hair loss -- and a host of other health issues. So are menopause and the onset of acne and skin problems related?  Yes, this definitely explains the connection.

Healthy, optimal levels of progesterone are produced in an environment of adequate thyroid hormones, enzymes and certain nutrients. 

If progesterone levels are lower than they should be, resulting in an imbalance -- more estrogen than progesterone -- thyroid hormones may be suppressed or not converted properly.  Estrogen and the stress hormone cortisol are thought to inhibit healthy thyroid function.
